where dreams are made, in the Theatre of Dreams

it really is like a dream. and till now sounds, sights, emotions are still reverberating in my head.

my love for manchester united should not be unfamiliar to my regular readers, and to be able to be there and witness the end of an era is just the most amazing experience ever.

i have visited Old Trafford 3 times, and in those 3 times,
i have seen them come back from behind to win a match 4-2,
i have seen them throw away a 2 goal lead to draw 2-2,
i have them lift the trophy,
and i have seen 2 legends retire on the same day.

for all these, i am so thankful, so grateful, and just so honored, even, to be so lucky.

silly, maybe. but true nonetheless.

managed to ballot tickets for the last home game way before it was announced that the trophy presentation would be during that match, or that sir alex ferguson was going to retire and that game would be his last game in front of the home crowd

it was just such a momentous occasion that tickets were going for S$2000 on the black market.

victory parade was the next day, and we started queuing at 1pm when the parade was scheduled at 6pm.

to make matters worse, a thunderstorm started around 3pm.

since we've arrived at UK last sept, we have heard thunder on a grand total of..... 2 times. so that's how rare thunderstorms are.
and then to make matters more dramatic, it started raining... ice.

the first hailstorm that we've experienced.
while we were stuck out in the open.

should we seek shelter and give up our prime location right in front of where we think the bus would be stopping?
or should we brave through this hailstorm for God knows how long more?

for this, i have to give credit to her.
she was literally crying, cos she thought we were going to die, but she still refused to give up that spot.

*insert gum dong face*

so 4 hours later, the bus arrived. and as fate would have it, the door from which the players were to board the bus was right in front of us.
it was so close that i could spit and some of my dna would fall on them. then if they wanted, they could clone me or something.

following are some of the 486 photos i took in the 30mins the bus was parked in front of me and they boarded 2 by 2.

best right back in the country, Rafael

throughout the whole 30 minutes, we could see how they were interacting on the top of the open-top bus, and 1 thing that stuck with me was how happy he genuinely was.

he and a couple of other players, they were so happy to be winning the league title, to be champions that they were just jumping on the bus!

it was such an experience to be seeing them as human beings, instead of some far-fetched superheroes we watch on TV from a zillion miles away.

i got to watch their interaction, their behavior, and tried to link it to the things we have read about them written by people who have heard from people who have probably seen video footage filmed by people close to them.

it was just.. mind-blowing..
for a split second, i imagined these are the thoughts that went through Justin Bieber's fans' minds while they waited as he was 2 hours late for his own concert..

anyhow..

the man of the moment was Sir Alex Ferguson, lifting the trophy for the last time before he retires at the end of the season.

Sir Alex Ferguson
mind you, i don't have a zoom lens, so these are taken less than a few metres from where we stood.

this man is a legend who transformed this club i adore from a mediocre 2nd league club to what it is today, retiring after 27 years in charge.

another person retiring is Paul Scholes

Paul Scholes
this man is unbelievable. he has won numerous trophy, but is humble beyond words.
he really hates the limelight, and just refused to be shoved in front of the camera.

that photo was taken of him sitting at the back of the bus, watching his teammates jump around, taking turns to hold the trophy.

super low-key guy.
he will be missed.

all things must come to an end..
