Legend has it that George Clooney visited this place and fell in love with it right away. he then bought a house somewhere along the lake and can be spotted in the region from time to time.
we didn't see him tho.
anyhow, we asked the hotel staff and turns out, there is a much simpler way of getting there from central of Milan, which i shall share with my dear readers!
1. from Milan, take a train from Cardona station to Como Lago, which is in central Milan, about 10mins walk from the Duomo.
tickets cost about €4 1-way. so €8 for a return ticket. buy the return ticket from Cardona station, cos we didn't see a ticket selling place in Como Lago.
(tip: no one actually checked our ticket on the way back, so if you really want to save a few bucks, you can just buy a 1-way ticket and hope no one checks)
the train ride took slightly more than an hour, and Como Lago is the final stop of the line, so no need to worry about missing the stop.
2. once you exit Como Lago station, the lake will be right in front. there is nothing much to see in Como itself. to really see what the fuss is about, you need to get to Bellagio.
we did have lunch at Como, and the seafood is very fresh! |
Take a left along the lake and there'll be a booth selling ferry tickets. 1-way ticket to Bellagio costs slightly less than €15.
(tip: best time to board the ferry from Como is around 2pm, so you can stay there for a couple of hours and see sunset at Bellagio before taking the 6pm ferry back.)
3. Ferry ride stops at a few places, like a bus. so it takes around 45 minutes to get to Bellagio. most people are headed for Bellagio, so the boat people tend to make sure everyone is aware when the ferry is at that stop. even if you miss it, just alight when most people on the ferry gets off.
just FYI: it is around 4 stops from Como.
ok, NPNT(no photo no talk)!
PHOTOS!!!
if you followed me on instagram, you would have seen this photo!
we sat in front of the lake and chilled with beer and icecream! it was like we were in a painting. =) very peaceful
oh, another tip is to explore the inside of Bellagio. it reminded us a lot of Venice, with the narrow streets.
we went on a friday afternoon, most of the shops were closed, and there were only a handful of tourists around, so it was really quiet and nice.
not sure if it'll be like that on weekends or during the summer.
so that's it on Bellagio..
Milan to follow next!
